Dangsan tree

  The history of Dangsan tree goes back to the Dangun period.
  It is said that Dangun’s father, Hwanung, descended from the sky on a sacred tree called ‘Sindansu’ that is located on the top of Mount Taebaek. Dangsan tree is believed to be descended by the gods.
  The people of Gojoseon held ancestral rites under the Dangsan tree (Shindansu) and prayed for a divine spirit to take care of their community.
  Dangsan trees are planted at the entrance to the village. The village entrance is believed to be a place that connects the inside and the outside of the world, which also has the symbolism of obstructing disasters and diseases from the outside world.
